My name is Mackenzie Corlis, and I am a normal high school student in a very small town. I am passionate about my faith, animals, health, music, movies, photography, and art along with many other things. I have been looking forward to doing big things for myself and others! I have always wanted to do something big, but just don't know where to start, or even have the courage to do it. Lately i have had a change of heart about myself and what i want to be. I want to be something more than a regular teenager. I want to be healthy, and to not feel bad about myself. Most teens my age might not care what they eat or what they put into their bodies, and some might not even have a clue. I am doing a project in my first hour English class called Genius Hour, and I work on it every week. My goal isn't to go around telling people you HAVE to eat this or you HAVE to do this. No way! My goal is to make people my age feel good about themselves and to not have to deal with people calling them fat or too skinny. I want them to know that both girls and boys have a choice and chance to be healthy, and that they are beautiful and worth it. Being healthy can help with their self-esteem because it is already helping me and i've only just begun!

ReplyDeleteKenzie, this is such a wonderful and compassionate way to 'pay it forward' to others that struggle with this 'all too real' epidemic. Share with those that may visit here what you will actually be doing to help others. Are you going to do surveys, interviews, make a documentary, a pamphlet or booklet? Are you going to do things on an individual level... I'm so thrilled for your project and your findings. It's an awesome idea; one that is really needed! Way to go!

Kenzie,
ReplyDeleteI think this is great, as many teens suffer from self-esteem problems. I know I do. I get called chunky, fat, overweight, pig, etc. It hurts, but I've learned to grow comfortable in my skin. Since Christmas Break, I have lost 17 lbs, and I feel so great about myself. I think by reaching out and trying to help others, you'll find pride within yourself, and you can't beat that feeling.
Best wishes.
